Mental Health in Jammu and Kashmir
Why More People in Jammu Are Finally Reaching Out for Help
Jammu carries a weight that most people outside this region will never fully understand. Decades of conflict, the pressure of displacement, a deeply rooted culture of silence around personal struggles, and an increasingly severe drug crisis have left a mark on mental health that cannot be ignored. More families here are dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship breakdown and addiction than ever before.
The chitta problem in Jammu is real and it is growing. Many young people from Trikuta Nagar to Rajouri, from Gandhi Nagar to the Pir Panjal belt, are caught in it. And their families are drowning alongside them, not knowing where to turn or who to trust. At Vaishalya Healing, we understand this. There is no judgment here. Just honest, professional support you can access from wherever you are, without anyone in your community finding out.
Whether you are a young person fighting addiction, a couple whose relationship has quietly fallen apart, a parent watching their teenager withdraw, or someone who has been carrying anxiety for years without telling a single person, this is a safe space to start. All sessions are fully online, completely private, and available in Hindi.
Jammu and Kashmir has consistently shown higher rates of psychiatric morbidity than the national average, with trauma exposure, displacement and drug proliferation identified as key contributing factors in multiple state-level studies.

The Psychologist Behind Vaishalya Healing
Leena Mehta, Counselling Psychologist
Leena Mehta is a counselling psychologist with over five years of experience across private practice and rehabilitation settings. She holds a Postgraduate degree in Psychology, a PG Diploma in Guidance and Counselling, and an APA-authorised certification.
She does not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. Every person who comes to Vaishalya Healing gets sessions shaped around their specific life, the pressures they are dealing with, and who they actually are. She works in Hindi and English, and brings a calm, honest presence that many clients say made it possible to open up for the first time.
Before her private practice, Leena worked at Naya Savera Rehabilitation Centre in Palampur, which means she understands addiction recovery from the inside out, including what happens after someone leaves a rehab centre and has to rebuild their life. She also serves as Chairperson of the Asha Bhupender Charitable Trust, running mental health awareness programmes across schools and colleges.

Online Counselling Accessible from Anywhere in Jammu and Kashmir
Because all sessions happen over a secure video call, it does not matter where in Jammu or J&K you are. You do not need to travel to a clinic, sit in a waiting room, or worry about running into someone you know.
Why Online Works
Online Therapy for Jammu Clients — Private, Practical and Just as Effective
In a place as closely connected as Jammu, one of the biggest things stopping people from getting help is the fear of being seen. Online counselling removes that barrier completely.
Nobody in Jammu Needs to Know
In a city where everyone knows everyone, walking into a clinic is enough to stop most people from going. Your session happens on your phone or laptop, wherever you feel safe. Nobody sees you. Nobody finds out.
Equally Effective as In-Person Therapy
Research consistently shows that online counselling produces outcomes comparable to face-to-face sessions for anxiety, depression, addiction support, relationship issues and most other concerns people come with.
No Travel, No Waiting Rooms
Whether you are in Gandhi Nagar or somewhere in the Pir Panjal belt, you connect directly to your session. No fuel, no rickshaw, no sitting in a waiting room wondering who else is there.
Sessions in Hindi, the Way You Actually Think
Most people in Jammu feel more comfortable expressing deep things in Hindi rather than English. Sessions are available in Hindi so you can speak the way you think, not the way you think you are supposed to sound.
Flexible Timings That Work Around You
Sessions run Monday to Saturday, 10 AM to 5 PM. If your situation is complicated, reach out and we will find something that actually fits your schedule.
Honest Pricing, No Hidden Anything
Sessions start at INR 1,000 for individual therapy. There are no packages you are pushed into, no charges for cancelling with 24 hours notice, and no surprises.
Client Experiences
What Clients Say About Vaishalya Healing
"My son was deep into chitta and I had no idea what to do or who to call. A friend mentioned Leena's name. We started sessions online, just him at first and then the two of us together. She never made either of us feel ashamed. Eight months later, he is clean and in college. I still cannot believe the difference."
Sushma Devi Online Session Client | De-Addiction and Family Counselling, Jammu"I had been anxious for so long that I thought it was just my personality. Three months of online counselling with Leena changed that completely. She gave me actual tools, not just nice words. I was worried about doing it online but honestly, being in my own room made it easier to open up."
Rohit Jamwal Online Session Client | Anxiety and Stress, Trikuta Nagar"My husband and I were at the point where we barely spoke. In Jammu, going to a marriage counsellor feels like telling the whole mohalla. Doing it online meant we could be honest without worrying about who knew. Leena helped us find each other again. We are genuinely grateful."

Common Questions
Questions People in Jammu Ask Before Booking
If you have something else on your mind, visit our full FAQ page or just send us a message directly.
This is one of the most common questions we get from families in Jammu. The honest answer is that it depends on where the person is in their recovery. Residential rehab or a nasha mukti kendra handles the physical side of withdrawal and detox, which genuinely requires in-person medical care. But the psychological work, the part that prevents relapse, that is where counselling comes in. Many people leave a rehab feeling physically better but still emotionally unprepared for real life. Online counselling with a psychologist fills that gap. It addresses the triggers, the emotional pain, the relationship damage and the identity questions that follow addiction. For many people in Jammu, ongoing counselling alongside or after rehab is what actually makes the difference between staying clean and going back.
Yes. Chitta addiction has a deep psychological component alongside the physical one. Once the body is through withdrawal, most people are left with the same emotional pain, boredom, loneliness or trauma that drove them to use in the first place. Without working through that, relapse is very common. Leena Mehta has worked with individuals and families dealing with chitta addiction and understands the specific pressures young people in Jammu face. Sessions cover understanding personal triggers, rebuilding self-worth, repairing relationships damaged by addiction, and building a life that does not need escaping. If the person is still in active use, we can also discuss whether a structured combination of detox support and counselling is the right path.
Yes. All sessions at Vaishalya Healing are conducted via secure video call, so whether you are in Trikuta Nagar, Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur, Kathua or any other part of Jammu and Kashmir, you can book and attend sessions without any travel. Sessions run Monday to Saturday, 10 AM to 5 PM. If you are in a remote area with limited connectivity, just reach out and we will work something out.
Individual therapy sessions are INR 1,000 for 45 minutes. Couples counselling is INR 1,600 for 60 minutes. Child and adolescent therapy is INR 1,200 per session. There are no hidden charges and rescheduling with 24 hours notice has no fee. Full details are on the booking page.
This is something many families in Jammu face. Leaving a rehabilitation centre is actually one of the highest-risk periods for relapse, because the person is back in the same environment and situations that triggered the addiction in the first place. Ongoing counselling after a rehab programme significantly reduces relapse rates. It helps the individual process what they went through, rebuild self-confidence, repair relationships, and develop real strategies for the moments that feel like too much. Family sessions can also be arranged to help everyone at home understand how to support recovery without enabling old patterns.
Yes. Sessions are available in Hindi and English. Most clients from Jammu prefer Hindi, especially when talking about family, relationships or addiction, and that is completely fine. Leena Mehta speaks with warmth and without judgment. Many clients say that after the first ten minutes, they stopped worrying about whether they were saying things the right way and just spoke honestly. That is the environment we try to create.
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can diagnose psychiatric conditions and prescribe medication. A psychologist works through structured, therapeutic conversation and does not prescribe medication. For most concerns including anxiety, depression, relationship problems, addiction support, anger management and stress, a psychologist is the right first step. If medication is likely to be needed, a psychologist can refer you to a psychiatrist. Read our full guide: Psychologist vs Psychiatrist — A Complete Guide.

There is no paper trail in your neighbourhood, no clinic reception to walk past, and no waiting room where you might see someone you know.
