Our Mission

Where compassion becomes action

Vaishalya Healing is a counselling and wellness centre founded by Leena Mehta in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh. It operates as a unit of the Asha Bhupender Charitable Trust, a registered charitable trust working across mental health awareness, rehabilitation, community welfare, and holistic wellbeing.

We believe that healing is not a privilege. It is a basic human need. And we believe that behind every sustained community effort, there are ordinary people who showed up and chose to care.

If you are looking to volunteer in India, contribute to mental health awareness in Kangra, support our Palampur NGO programmes, help with de-addiction recovery, or gain meaningful field experience in social work or NGO operations, this is a real place where your effort will matter.

What volunteers and supporters say

Mental health support was never something families here could easily access or afford. What this trust is doing, bringing that care into the hills, is something the region genuinely needed. The work is quiet but it is consistent.

Chandan Thakur
Chandan Thakur Himachal Pradesh

There are very few places in Himachal where a woman's family can find structured rehabilitation support without traveling far or spending beyond their means. This trust fills that gap in a way that feels thought through, not rushed.

Smt. Leena Kumari has built something here that the community was missing for a long time. It is not just about the facility. It is about how seriously they take the recovery process. That seriousness shows.

The work here is quiet but it is deep. You start to see how much one person showing up consistently can change the atmosphere for people who have been struggling alone.

What stands out is that this is not just a token initiative. They are working consistently on the ground, in communities where these conversations were never even had before. That kind of sustained effort is rare.

The setting itself, deep in the mountains, surrounded by calm, adds something to the healing process that you cannot manufacture. Combined with the structured care they provide, it makes this place genuinely different from anything else available here.

The Women's Rehabilitation Centre in Himachal Pradesh

One of the most significant upcoming projects under the Asha Bhupender Charitable Trust is a dedicated women's rehabilitation centre in Himachal Pradesh. This centre will provide structured, long-term support for women recovering from addiction, trauma, and situations of vulnerability in the Kangra region and surrounding districts.

It is being built on the belief that women deserve a space that is safe, respectful, and oriented toward real recovery and life reintegration, not just short-term relief.

Volunteers will play an active role in this centre once operational, from activity coordination and vocational support to awareness and documentation work.

  • Dedicated residential support for women in recovery
  • Vocational training and skill development within the centre
  • Peer support and community-building programmes
  • Volunteer roles in daily activities, outreach, and coordination
  • Collaboration with counsellors, social workers, and NGO teams

Leena Mehta has spent over five years in active counselling practice and community mental health work across Himachal Pradesh. She founded Vaishalya Healing as a counselling centre and established the Asha Bhupender Charitable Trust to extend that work into rehabilitation, community welfare, and social impact at a broader scale.

Her approach is rooted in the belief that mental wellbeing is a community issue, not just an individual one, and that recovery requires patience, structure, and sustained human presence.

"When someone chooses to volunteer, they are not just giving their time. They are choosing to believe that people deserve care. That belief changes things."

Frequently Asked Questions

Things volunteers usually want to know

Real answers to the questions we hear most often from prospective volunteers across India.

Anyone above the age of 18 who wishes to contribute meaningfully is welcome. Students, working professionals, homemakers, retirees, and people between jobs have all volunteered with us. The only real requirement is a genuine interest in people and community wellbeing. Some roles may require specific skills or backgrounds, but most are open to anyone willing to learn and show up with consistency.
Yes, absolutely. We actively encourage student volunteering in India, including undergraduates, postgraduates, and those pursuing diplomas or certifications in any field. Students from psychology, social work, nursing, public health, education, communications, design, and management have all found meaningful roles here. You do not need to be from a related field to contribute.
Yes. Psychology students are particularly welcome and can volunteer in awareness campaigns, community data collection, psychoeducation sessions, and fieldwork support. If you are looking for a structured internship with supervised hours and an official certificate, please visit our Psychology Internship in India page. That is a separate programme specifically designed for psychology and counselling students seeking clinical field experience.
Yes. Upon completing a defined volunteering period or project, volunteers receive an official NGO volunteer certificate from the Asha Bhupender Charitable Trust. This NGO volunteer certificate reflects your role, duration, and area of contribution and can be used for academic, professional, or personal records. The certificate is issued upon satisfactory completion, not simply upon registration.
Volunteering with us is unpaid at this time. We are a charitable trust running on limited resources, and our priority is sustaining the programmes themselves. That said, we work to ensure that in-person volunteers have their needs met in terms of orientation, guidance, and relevant support during their time with us. For structured internship arrangements with specific terms, please see the internship programme.
We are working toward accommodation arrangements for committed in-person volunteers, especially those travelling from outside Himachal Pradesh. Please mention your situation and needs in your registration form and during your orientation call. Our team will do its best to guide you on available options in the area and what support may be possible.
This depends on the nature and duration of your involvement. Long-term, committed volunteers who take up full-time roles may be supported in terms of meals or housing arrangements through coordination with the centre. Short-term and remote volunteers are responsible for their own accommodation. We encourage open communication about your circumstances so we can work out what is feasible.
We are flexible. You can contribute for a single event, for a few weeks, or for several months. We ask that you be honest about your availability in the registration form. Consistency matters more than duration, so someone who commits to two hours a week reliably is more valuable to us than someone who promises more and cannot follow through. We will work with whatever time you genuinely have.
After you fill in the volunteer registration form on this page, our team reviews your application within 3 to 5 working days. We will reach out via email or phone to schedule a brief orientation call, discuss your interests, and suggest the most relevant roles. After the call, you receive a basic onboarding guide covering our values and code of conduct. From there, you begin contributing based on your confirmed availability and role.
All volunteers receive an orientation session covering the trust's mission, values, and code of conduct. Beyond that, task-specific guidance is provided depending on your role. You will not be left to figure things out alone. Our team is accessible for questions, feedback, and support throughout your volunteering period. We want this to be a productive and grounding experience for you.
Yes. Social work students and graduates looking for field placements in Himachal Pradesh can apply through our volunteer registration. Our programmes cover mental health outreach, de-addiction support, rehabilitation care, and community welfare work across Kangra, Palampur, Dharamshala, and surrounding districts. If your college requires a formal placement letter, supervised hours, or academic documentation, mention this in the registration form and our team will work with you on what is possible. For a fully structured, certificate-based psychology internship in Himachal Pradesh, please also visit our dedicated internship page.
Yes, some volunteer roles involve supporting our de-addiction and rehabilitation programmes in Himachal Pradesh. These are structured programmes run under professional supervision. Volunteers in this area assist with daily routine support, structured activity coordination, peer engagement, and documentation. You do not need prior clinical training. Sensitivity, patience, and consistency are what matter most. Our work currently spans Kangra, Palampur, and Dharamshala, with outreach activities reaching into Mandi, Shimla, Kullu, Solan, Una, and Bilaspur districts. Volunteers from any of these areas, as well as from other states across India, are welcome to apply.
Vaishalya Healing and the Asha Bhupender Charitable Trust run community-level mental health awareness programmes and accessible outreach initiatives across Himachal Pradesh, including in Kangra, Palampur, and neighbouring districts. Our outreach drives are designed to bring mental health awareness and support within reach of communities that have limited access. Volunteers contribute directly to these community programmes. As a registered volunteer, you will receive an official NGO volunteer certificate from the Asha Bhupender Charitable Trust upon completing your engagement. This NGO volunteer certificate from India is recognised for academic portfolios, job applications, and further study in social or mental health related fields.
Once the women's rehabilitation centre in Himachal Pradesh is operational, volunteers will be involved in daily activity coordination, vocational training support, awareness and psychoeducation sessions, documentation, and community outreach. Those who register now and indicate an interest in this initiative will be among the first to be contacted when the centre begins its volunteer intake. It is a meaningful opportunity to be part of something significant from the ground up.
Volunteering and interning are separate pathways. Volunteering is open to all and is contribution-focused without a formal training structure. The psychology internship programme is specifically structured for students seeking supervised field hours, live case exposure, and a certified training certificate. Some volunteers transition to internship arrangements if eligible. Both are valuable; your goal and background will determine which is right for you.
For the initial online registration, no documents are required. However, for in-person roles, especially those involving direct interaction with individuals in care, you may be asked to submit a government ID proof, a brief background statement, and an emergency contact. For psychology students seeking supervised hours, your college ID and a letter from your institution may be requested. All documentation requirements will be communicated clearly after your orientation call.
